About the Tewecado Trust, Inc.

The Tewecado Trust, Inc., works in partnership with The Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Poor to improve the living and learning environment for the Tarahumara and Mestizo children who live at and/or attend the Tewecado Mission Schools in the mountain towns in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. In addition, the Trust supports the continued education of the students as they may complete junior high, high school, and if desired, go to college.

The Tewecado Trust, Inc., provides funding, mentoring and technical expertise to support its belief that education is the key to self sufficiency in an increasingly global economy.

Operated totally by volunteers, The Tewecado Trust is a US-based-not-for-profit organization. Donations are tax deductible under US tax code 501(c)(3).

We believe in a strong respect for the laws of the United States and Mexico.

Goals of the Trust

  • To create a partnership with the school administration with an emphasis on local leadership.
  • To provide funds for capital improvements, educational materials, food, supplies, clothing, utilities, teacher training, scholarshops, emergencies, and other items subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.
  • To make every effort to represent the wishes of the donors.

Funded the expansion and modernization of the boarding school kitchen.

Provided 75% of the funds to build a dormitory addition which includes shower facilities, locker and dressing rooms.

Funded a complete new water system, including nearly two miles of cross-town pipeline.

Created a school library with over 1,500 books - all in Spanish.

Provided scholarships for twelve lay teachers to become certified.

Replaced the roof of the entire school and dormitory complex.

Funded the purchase and installation of a solar water heating system.

Repaired and updated sewer and water infrastructure in the boarding school area.

Purchased new appliances, including refrigerators and washers, for the use of the Sisters and the girls.

Regularly provided funds for the puchase of food, medical supplies, clothing, staff salaries, and other operating expenses.
