The Virgin of Guadalupe School
also known as The Tewecado Mission School...

...was founded in 1941 by the Servants of the Sacred Heart who were
dedicated to serving the poorest of the poor. Run by an order of nuns, the facility now provides boarding and education to approximately 75 Tarahumara girls. About 170 girls and boys that live nearby, attend classes on the same campus, as well.

Teaching students
(Above) Day students and Tarahumara girls participate in class.
Students receive an academic curriculum as well as instruction in personal hygiene and cleanliness. They also learn about Tarahumara culture and traditions.

Over the past few years The Tewecado Trust has been working to improve the learning enviroment of all the students, and living conditions of the boarded girls. We have succeeded in many ways, but are still working hard. For an example of this, check out the on going roofing project!
